He learned that his mentor and marilyn colour, leader, Elijah Muhammad, was secretly having relations with as many as six women within the buddhist on homosexuality Nation of marilyn monroe Islam organization. As if that were not enough, Malcolm found out Obesity Among Essay that some of these relationships had resulted in monroe, children. Since joining the goblin NOI, Malcolm had strictly adhered to colour the teachings of Muhammad, which included remaining celibate until his marriage to Betty Shabazz in 1958.

Malcolm refused Muhammad#8217;s request to help cover up the affairs and subsequent children. He was deeply hurt by Muhammad#8217;s actions, because he had previously considered him a living prophet. Price Quality Relationships. Malcolm also felt guilty about the masses he had led to marilyn join the marilyn monroe colour NOI, which he now felt was a fraudulent organization built on too many lies to marilyn monroe ignore. Shortly after his shocking discovery, Malcolm received criticism for a comment he made regarding the assassination of President John F. Importance Of Being Period. Kennedy. #8220;[Kennedy] never foresaw that the marilyn colour chickens would come home to roost so soon,#8221; said Malcolm. After the statement, Elijah Muhammad #8220;silenced#8221; Malcolm for 90 days. Malcolm, however, suspected he was silenced for another reason. In March 1964, Malcolm terminated his relationship with the buddhist views on homosexuality NOI. This time when Malcolm spoke, instead of marilyn monroe colour just preaching to princess and the goblin African-Americans, he had a message for marilyn, all races. Importance Of Being Earnest. After Malcolm resigned his position in the Nation of monroe Islam and renounced Elijah Muhammad, relations between the two had become increasingly volatile. FBI informants working undercover in Children Essay, the NOI warned officials that Malcolm had been marked for assassinationone undercover officer had even been ordered to help plant a bomb in monroe colour, Malcolm#8217;s car. Sample Essay Responses and Rater Commentary for the Argument Task. The sample essays that follow were written in response to the prompt that appears below . The rater commentary that follows each sample essay explains how the response meets the criteria for that score. For a more complete understanding of the criteria for each score point, see the monroe, Analyze an Argument Scoring Guide. In surveys Mason City residents rank water sports (swimming, boating and fishing) among their favorite recreational activities. The Mason River flowing through the city is and men title, rarely used for colour, these pursuits, however, and the city park department devotes little of and men title, its budget to maintaining riverside recreational facilities. Monroe Colour? For years there have been complaints from importance of being earnest residents about the quality of the river's water and the river's smell. In response, the state has recently announced plans to monroe colour, clean up Mason River. Use of the river for water sports is therefore sure to increase. The city government should for that reason devote more money in this year's budget to of being time, riverside recreational facilities.

Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on the assumptions and monroe colour what the implications are if the assumptions prove unwarranted. Note: All responses are reproduced exactly as written, including errors, misspellings, etc., if any. While it may be true that the Mason City government ought to devote more money to monroe, riverside recreational facilities, this author's argument does not make a cogent case for marilyn colour, increased resources based on river use. It is easy to title, understand why city residents would want a cleaner river, but this argument is rife with holes and assumptions, and thus, not strong enough to lead to increased funding. Citing surveys of colour, city residents, the author reports city resident's love of water sports. It is not clear, however, the scope and validity of that survey. For example, the survey could have asked residents if they prefer using the of mice and men, river for water sports or would like to see a hydroelectric dam built, which may have swayed residents toward river sports. The sample may not have been representative of monroe colour, city residents, asking only those residents who live upon the river. The survey may have been 10 pages long, with 2 questions dedicated to importance of being earnest time period, river sports. We just do not know.

Unless the marilyn monroe colour, survey is fully representative, valid, and reliable, it can not be used to effectively back the princess, author's argument. Additionally, the monroe colour, author implies that residents do not use the river for swimming, boating, and fishing, despite their professed interest, because the water is marilyn colour, polluted and smelly. While a polluted, smelly river would likely cut down on monroe river sports, a concrete connection between the resident's lack of river use and the river's current state is not effectively made. Though there have been complaints, we do not know if there have been numerous complaints from a wide range of Preventing Obesity Among Children, people, or perhaps from one or two individuals who made numerous complaints. To strengthen his/her argument, the author would benefit from implementing a normed survey asking a wide range of residents why they do not currently use the river. Building upon the implication that residents do not use the river due to the quality of the river's water and marilyn the smell, the author suggests that a river clean up will result in increased river usage.

If the river's water quality and smell result from problems which can be cleaned, this may be true. For example, if the Essay, decreased water quality and aroma is caused by pollution by factories along the river, this conceivably could be remedied. Marilyn Colour? But if the quality and aroma results from the natural mineral deposits in the water or surrounding rock, this may not be true. There are some bodies of importance, water which emit a strong smell of sulphur due to the geography of the marilyn, area. This is not something likely to be afffected by a clean-up.

Consequently, a river clean up may have no impact upon river usage. Regardless of whether the river's quality is princess and the, able to be improved or not, the author does not effectively show a connection between water quality and river usage. A clean, beautiful, safe river often adds to a city's property values, leads to increased tourism and revenue from monroe colour those who come to take advantage of the price relationships, river, and a better overall quality of life for residents. For these reasons, city government may decide to invest in improving riverside recreational facilities. However, this author's argument is not likely significantly persuade the city goverment to marilyn monroe, allocate increased funding. Rater Commentary for Essay Response Score 6.

This insightful response identifies important assumptions and thoroughly examines their implications. And Men Title? The essay shows that the proposal to spend more on riverside recreational facilities rests on marilyn three questionable assumptions, namely: that the survey provides a reliable basis for budget planning that the river’s pollution and price quality relationships odor are the only reasons for its limited recreational use that efforts to clean the water and remove the odor will be successful. By showing that each assumption is highly suspect, this essay demonstrates the weakness of the entire argument. For example, paragraph 2 points out that the survey might not have used a representative sample, might have offered limited choices, and marilyn might have contained very few questions on water sports. Paragraph 3 examines the Among Essay, tenuous connection between complaints and limited use of the marilyn colour, river for recreation. Complaints about water quality and of mice and men title odor may be coming from only a few people and, even if such complaints are numerous, other completely different factors may be much more significant in marilyn monroe reducing river usage. Finally, paragraph 4 explains that certain geologic features may prevent effective river clean-up. Details such as these provide compelling support. In addition, careful organization ensures that each new point builds upon the previous ones.

For example, note the clear transitions at the beginning of paragraphs 3 and 4, as well as the logical sequence of sentences within paragraphs (specifically paragraph 4). Although this essay does contain minor errors, it still conveys ideas fluently. Note the effective word choices (e.g., rife with . . . assumptions and Preventing Children may have swayed residents). Colour? In addition, sentences are not merely varied; they also display skillful embedding of subordinate elements. Since this response offers cogent examination of the argument and conveys meaning skillfully, it earns a score of 6. The author of this proposal to increase the of being, budget for Mason City riverside recreational facilities offers an interesting argument but to move forward on the proposal would definitely require more information and thought. While the correlations stated are logical and marilyn monroe colour probable, there may be hidden factors that prevent the City from diverting resources to this project. For example, consider the Dubois, survey rankings among Mason City residents. The thought is that such high regard for water sports will translate into usage. But, survey responses can hardly be used as indicators of actual behavior.

Many surveys conducted after the winter holidays reveal people who list exercise and weight loss as a top priority. Yet every profession does not equal a new gym membership. Colour? Even the Dubois and Pan Africanism Essay, wording of the marilyn, survey results remain ambiguous and vague. Goblin? While water sports may be among the residents' favorite activities, this allows for many other favorites. What remains unknown is the priorities of the general public. Monroe? Do they favor these water sports above a softball field or soccer field? Are they willing to sacrifice the municipal golf course for better riverside facilities? Indeed the survey hardly provides enough information to discern future use of improved facilities. Closely linked to the surveys is the bold assumption that a cleaner river will result in increased usage.

While it is not illogical to expect some increase, at what level will people begin to use the river? The answer to this question requires a survey to find out the reasons our residents use or do not use the river. Is river water quality the primary limiting factor to usage or the monroe colour, lack of docks and piers? Are people more interested in water sports than the marilyn, recreational activities that they are already engaged in? These questions will help the city government forecast how much river usage will increase and to assign a proportional increase to the budget. Likewise, the author is optimistic regarding the state promise to monroe, clean the colour, river. We need to hear the source of the voices and consider any ulterior motives. Is this a campaign year and the plans a campaign promise from the state representative? What is the timeline for the clean-up effort?

Will the state fully fund this project? We can imagine the misuse of monroe colour, funds in renovating the monroe colour, riverside facilities only to importance of being earnest time period, watch the new buildings fall into dilapidation while the state drags the river clean-up. Last, the author does not consider where these additional funds will be diverted from. The current budget situation must be assessed to determine if this increase can be afforded. In a sense, the City may not be willing to draw money away from other key projects from road improvements to schools and education. The author naively assumes that the money can simply appear without forethought on where it will come from. Examining all the monroe colour, various angles and factors involved with improving riverside recreational facilities, the argument does not justify increasing the budget. Period? While the proposal does highlight a possibility, more information is required to warrant any action. Rater Commentary for Essay Response Score 5. Each paragraph in the body of marilyn, this perceptive essay identifies and examines an Obesity Children unstated assumption that is crucial to the argument. The major assumptions discussed are: that a survey can accurately predict behavior that cleaning the river will, in itself, increase recreational usage that state plans to clean the monroe, river will actually be realized that Mason City can afford to spend more on Garvey, and Pan Africanism riverside recreational facilities.

Support within each paragraph is both thoughtful and thorough. For example, paragraph 2 points out vagueness in the wording of the survey: Even if water sports rank among the favorite recreational activities of Mason City residents, other sports may still be much more popular. Thus, if the first assumption proves unwarranted, the argument to fund riverside facilities rather than soccer fields or golf courses becomes much weaker. Paragraph 4 considers several reasons why river clean-up plans may not be successful (the plans may be nothing more than campaign promises or funding may not be adequate). Thus, the weakness of the third assumption undermines the argument that river recreation will increase and riverside improvements will be needed at all.

Instead of dismissing each assumption in isolation, this response places them in a logical order and considers their connections. Note the appropriate transitions between and within paragraphs, clarifying the links among the assumptions (e.g., Closely linked to the surveys or The answer to this question requires. ). Along with strong development, this response also displays facility with language. Minor errors in punctuation are present, but word choices are apt and sentences suitably varied in marilyn colour pattern and length. The response uses a number of rhetorical questions, but the implied answers are always clear enough to support the points being made. Thus, the response satisfies all requirements for a score of 5, but its development is not thorough or compelling enough for a 6.

The problem with the arguement is the assumption that if the marilyn, Mason River were cleaned up, that people would use it for water sports and recreation. This is not necessarily true, as people may rank water sports among their favorite recreational activities, but that does not mean that those same people have the financial ability, time or equipment to pursue those interests. However, even if the writer of the arguement is correct in assuming that the marilyn monroe, Mason River will be used more by the city's residents, the Among Essay, arguement does not say why the recreational facilities need more money. Marilyn Monroe Colour? If recreational facilities already exist along the Mason River, why should the city allot more money to fund them? If the recreational facilities already in existence will be used more in the coming years, then they will be making more money for themselves, eliminating the need for the city government to devote more money to them. According to the arguement, the reason people are not using the Mason River for water sports is earnest time period, because of the smell and the quality of water, not because the recreational facilities are unacceptable. If the marilyn monroe, city government alloted more money to the recreational facilities, then the and the, budget is marilyn monroe colour, being cut from some other important city project. Also, if the assumptions proved unwarranted, and more people did not use the river for recreation, then much money has been wasted, not only the money for the recreational facilities, but also the money that was used to clean up the river to attract more people in the first place. Rater Commentary for Essay Response Score 4. This competent response identifies two unstated assumptions: that cleaning up the of mice, Mason River will lead to increased recreational use that existing facilities along the river need more funding.

Paragraph 1 offers reasons why the first assumption is questionable (e.g., residents may not have the monroe, necessary time or money for water sports). Preventing Obesity Children? Similarly, paragraphs 2 and 3 explain that riverside recreational facilities may already be adequate and may, in colour fact, produce additional income if usage increases. Thus, the response is price quality relationships, adequately developed and satisfactorily organized to monroe colour, show how the argument depends on questionable assumptions. However, this essay does not rise to a score of 5 because it fails to consider several other unstated assumptions (e.g., that the survey is reliable or that the marilyn colour, efforts to marilyn monroe, clean the river will be successful). Garvey, Dubois Africanism? Furthermore, the final paragraph makes some extraneous, unsupported assertions of marilyn monroe, its own. Mason City may actually have a budget surplus so that cuts to other projects will not be necessary, and cleaning the river may provide other real benefits even if it is not used more for water sports. This response is generally free of errors in grammar and and the usage and displays sufficient control of language to support a score of 4.

Surveys are created to speak for the people; however, surveys do not always speak for the whole community. A survey completed by marilyn, Mason City residents concluded that the price, residents enjoy water sports as a form of recreation. If that is so evident, why has the river not been used? The blame can not be soley be placed on the city park department. The city park department can only do as much as they observe. The real issue is not the residents use of the river, but their desire for a more pleasant smell and a more pleasant sight. If the city government cleans the river, it might take years for the smell to go away. If the budget is marilyn colour, changed to accomodate the clean up of the marilyn, Mason River, other problems will arise.

The residents will then begin to complain about other issues in their city that will be ignored because of the great emphasis being placed on Mason River. If more money is taken out of the budget to clean the river an marilyn monroe assumption can be made. This assumption is that the budget for another part of cit maintenance or building will be tapped into Garvey, Dubois and Pan Africanism, to. In addition, to the budget being used to clean up Mason River, it will also be allocated in increasing riverside recreational facilites. The government is monroe colour, trying to appease its residents, and importance of being earnest time period one can warrant that the role of the monroe colour, government is to please the people. There are many assumptions being made; however, the importance of being time period, government can not make the marilyn monroe, assumption that people want the marilyn colour, river to be cleaned so that they can use it for recreational water activities. The government has to realize the long term effects that their decision will have on the monetary value of marilyn, their budget. Rater Commentary for Essay Response Score 3.

Even though much of this essay is Obesity Among Children Essay, tangential, it offers some relevant examination of the argument’s assumptions. Monroe? The early sentences mention a questionable assumption (that the survey results are reliable) but do not explain how the survey might have been flawed. Then the response drifts to irrelevant matters a defense of the Obesity Among Children Essay, city park department, a prediction of budget problems and the problem of pleasing city residents. Some statements even introduce unwarranted assumptions that are not part of the original argument (e.g., The residents will then begin to complain about other issues and This assumption is that the budget for another part of marilyn colour, city maintenance or building will be tapped into). Near the end, the response does correctly note that city government should not assume that residents want to Essay, use the river for colour, recreation. Hence, the price relationships, proposal to increase funding for riverside recreational facilities may not be justified. In summary, the language in this response is reasonably clear, but its examination of unstated assumptions remains limited and therefore earns a score of 3. This statement looks like logical, but there are some wrong sentences in it which is not logical. First, this statement mentions raking water sports as their favorite recreational activities at the first sentence. However, it seems to marilyn, have a ralation between the first sentence and the setence which mentions that increase the quality of the river's water and the river's smell.

This is princess, a wrong cause and result to solve the problem. Second, as a reponse to the complaints from residents, the state plan to clean up the river. As a result, the state expects that water sports will increase. When you look at two sentences, the result is not appropriate for the cause. Third, the last statement is the conclusion. However, even though residents rank water sports, the marilyn colour, city government might devote the budget to another issue. Price Relationships? This statement is also a wrong cause and marilyn colour result. In summary, the statement is not logical because there are some errors in it. The supporting setences are not strong enough to support this issue.

Rater Commentary for Essay Response Score 2. Although this essay appears to be carefully organized, it does not follow the directions for the assigned task. In his/her vague references to causal fallacies, the writer attempts logical analysis but never refers to any unstated assumptions. Furthermore, several errors in grammar and sentence structure interfere with meaning (e.g., This statement looks like logical, but there are some wrong sentences in it which is not logical). Because this response does not follow the directions for the assigned task and contains errors in sentence structure and logical development, it earns a score of 2.

The statement assumes that everyone in Mason City enjoys some sort of recreational activity, which may not be necessarily true. The statement also assumes that if the state cleans up the river, the and the goblin, use of the river for water sports will definitely increase. Rater Commentary for Essay Response Score 1. The brevity of this two-sentence response makes it fundamentally deficient. Sentence 1 states an assumption that is actually not present in the argument, and sentence 2 correctly states an marilyn monroe assumption but provides no discussion of its implications. Although the response may begin to Dubois, address the monroe colour, assigned task, it offers no development. Monroe? As such, it is clearly extremely brief . providing little evidence of an organized response and earns a score of monroe, 1.

Disputation of Doctor Martin Luther. on the marilyn Power and Efficacy of Indulgences. by Dr. Martin Luther (1517) Works of Martin Luther: Adolph Spaeth, L.D.

Reed, Henry Eyster Jacobs, et Al., Trans. Eds. (Philadelphia: A. And Men! J. Holman Company, 1915), Vol.1, pp. Marilyn Colour! 29-38. Out of time period love for the truth and the desire to bring it to light, the marilyn following propositions will be discussed at Wittenberg, under the presidency of the Reverend Father Martin Luther, Master of Arts and of Sacred Theology, and Lecturer in marilyn monroe colour Ordinary on the same at that place. Wherefore he requests that those who are unable to be present and debate orally with us, may do so by monroe colour, letter.

In the Name our Lord Jesus Christ. Preventing Among Essay! Amen. 1. Monroe! Our Lord and Master Jesus Christ, when He said Poenitentiam agite, willed that the whole life of princess and the believers should be repentance. 2. Marilyn! This word cannot be understood to mean sacramental penance, i.e., confession and satisfaction, which is administered by quality relationships, the priests. 3. Yet it means not inward repentance only; nay, there is no inward repentance which does not outwardly work divers mortifications of the flesh. 4. The penalty [of sin], therefore, continues so long as hatred of self continues; for this is the true inward repentance, and continues until our entrance into the kingdom of heaven.

5. The pope does not intend to remit, and cannot remit any penalties other than those which he has imposed either by his own authority or by that of the Canons. 6. The pope cannot remit any guilt, except by declaring that it has been remitted by God and by assenting to God's remission; though, to be sure, he may grant remission in cases reserved to his judgment. If his right to grant remission in such cases were despised, the guilt would remain entirely unforgiven. 7. God remits guilt to no one whom He does not, at the same time, humble in all things and bring into subjection to His vicar, the monroe priest. 8. The penitential canons are imposed only on the living, and, according to them, nothing should be imposed on the dying. 9. Therefore the Preventing Obesity Children Essay Holy Spirit in the pope is kind to us, because in his decrees he always makes exception of the article of death and of necessity.

10. Ignorant and wicked are the doings of those priests who, in the case of the dying, reserve canonical penances for purgatory. 11. This changing of the marilyn colour canonical penalty to the penalty of and the goblin purgatory is quite evidently one of the tares that were sown while the bishops slept. 12. In former times the canonical penalties were imposed not after, but before absolution, as tests of true contrition. 13. The dying are freed by death from all penalties; they are already dead to canonical rules, and marilyn monroe have a right to be released from them. 14. The imperfect health [of soul], that is to of being earnest time period say, the imperfect love, of the dying brings with it, of necessity, great fear; and the smaller the love, the greater is the fear. 15.

This fear and monroe colour horror is earnest, sufficient of itself alone (to say nothing of other things) to constitute the penalty of purgatory, since it is very near to the horror of despair. 16. Hell, purgatory, and heaven seem to differ as do despair, almost-despair, and the assurance of safety. 17. With souls in purgatory it seems necessary that horror should grow less and marilyn monroe colour love increase.

18. It seems unproved, either by earnest time, reason or Scripture, that they are outside the monroe state of merit, that is to say, of increasing love. 19. Again, it seems unproved that they, or at least that all of Preventing Among Children them, are certain or assured of their own blessedness, though we may be quite certain of colour it. 20. Therefore by full remission of all penalties the Dubois and Pan Africanism pope means not actually of all, but only of those imposed by himself. 21.

Therefore those preachers of indulgences are in error, who say that by the pope's indulgences a man is freed from every penalty, and saved; 22. Whereas he remits to souls in purgatory no penalty which, according to the canons, they would have had to pay in this life. 23. If it is at all possible to grant to any one the remission of all penalties whatsoever, it is certain that this remission can be granted only to the most perfect, that is, to the very fewest. 24. It must needs be, therefore, that the greater part of the people are deceived by marilyn, that indiscriminate and highsounding promise of release from penalty.

25. The power which the pope has, in a general way, over purgatory, is princess goblin, just like the power which any bishop or curate has, in a special way, within his own diocese or parish. 26. The pope does well when he grants remission to souls [in purgatory], not by the power of the keys (which he does not possess), but by way of intercession. 27.

They preach man who say that so soon as the penny jingles into the money-box, the soul flies out [of purgatory]. 28. It is certain that when the penny jingles into the money-box, gain and avarice can be increased, but the colour result of the intercession of the Church is in the power of God alone. 29. Importance Of Being Earnest Period! Who knows whether all the souls in purgatory wish to be bought out of it, as in the legend of Sts. Marilyn Monroe Colour! Severinus and Paschal. 30.

No one is sure that his own contrition is sincere; much less that he has attained full remission. 31. Rare as is the princess and the man that is truly penitent, so rare is also the man who truly buys indulgences, i.e., such men are most rare. 32. They will be condemned eternally, together with their teachers, who believe themselves sure of their salvation because they have letters of pardon. 33. Men must be on their guard against those who say that the pope's pardons are that inestimable gift of God by which man is reconciled to Him;

34. For these graces of pardon concern only the penalties of sacramental satisfaction, and these are appointed by marilyn colour, man. 35. Of Mice Title! They preach no Christian doctrine who teach that contrition is not necessary in those who intend to buy souls out of purgatory or to buy confessionalia. 36. Every truly repentant Christian has a right to full remission of marilyn colour penalty and guilt, even without letters of pardon. 37. Every true Christian, whether living or dead, has part in all the blessings of Christ and the Church; and this is granted him by God, even without letters of pardon. 38. Nevertheless, the remission and participation [in the blessings of the Church] which are granted by the pope are in no way to be despised, for they are, as I have said, the declaration of Garvey, Dubois and Pan Essay divine remission. 39.

It is most difficult, even for the very keenest theologians, at one and the same time to commend to the people the abundance of pardons and marilyn colour [the need of] true contrition. 40. True contrition seeks and loves penalties, but liberal pardons only relax penalties and cause them to be hated, or at least, furnish an earnest time occasion [for hating them]. 41. Apostolic pardons are to colour be preached with caution, lest the people may falsely think them preferable to Garvey, Dubois and Pan Africanism Essay other good works of love. 42. Christians are to be taught that the pope does not intend the buying of pardons to be compared in monroe any way to works of mercy. 43. Preventing Among Children! Christians are to be taught that he who gives to the poor or lends to the needy does a better work than buying pardons; 44. Because love grows by works of love, and marilyn monroe colour man becomes better; but by pardons man does not grow better, only more free from penalty.

45. 45. Christians are to be taught that he who sees a man in need, and passes him by, and gives [his money] for pardons, purchases not the indulgences of the pope, but the indignation of God. 46. Christians are to and Pan be taught that unless they have more than they need, they are bound to keep back what is necessary for their own families, and by marilyn colour, no means to title squander it on pardons. 47. Christians are to be taught that the buying of pardons is a matter of free will, and not of commandment. 48.

Christians are to be taught that the pope, in granting pardons, needs, and therefore desires, their devout prayer for him more than the money they bring. 49. Marilyn! Christians are to be taught that the pope's pardons are useful, if they do not put their trust in them; but altogether harmful, if through them they lose their fear of God. 50. Christians are to princess and the be taught that if the pope knew the exactions of the pardon-preachers, he would rather that St. Peter's church should go to ashes, than that it should be built up with the skin, flesh and bones of his sheep. 51. Christians are to be taught that it would be the pope's wish, as it is his duty, to give of his own money to very many of those from whom certain hawkers of pardons cajole money, even though the monroe church of St. Peter might have to price relationships be sold. 52. The assurance of salvation by letters of pardon is monroe colour, vain, even though the commissary, nay, even though the pope himself, were to stake his soul upon it.

53. They are enemies of Christ and Garvey, and Pan Africanism of the pope, who bid the Word of monroe colour God be altogether silent in princess goblin some Churches, in order that pardons may be preached in others. 54. Injury is done the Word of God when, in the same sermon, an equal or a longer time is spent on pardons than on colour this Word. 55. It must be the intention of the pope that if pardons, which are a very small thing, are celebrated with one bell, with single processions and Garvey, and Pan ceremonies, then the Gospel, which is the very greatest thing, should be preached with a hundred bells, a hundred processions, a hundred ceremonies. 56.

The treasures of the Church, out of which the pope. grants indulgences, are not sufficiently named or known among the monroe people of Christ. 57. That they are not temporal treasures is Preventing Obesity Children, certainly evident, for many of the marilyn monroe vendors do not pour out such treasures so easily, but only gather them. 58. Marilyn! Nor are they the merits of Christ and the Saints, for even without the pope, these always work grace for the inner man, and the cross, death, and hell for the outward man. 59. St. Lawrence said that the treasures of the Church were the Church's poor, but he spoke according to the usage of the word in marilyn colour his own time. 60. Without rashness we say that the Obesity Among keys of the Church, given by Christ's merit, are that treasure;

61. Monroe Colour! For it is of mice, clear that for the remission of penalties and of reserved cases, the power of the pope is of itself sufficient. 62. The true treasure of the Church is the Most Holy Gospel of the glory and the grace of God. 63.

But this treasure is naturally most odious, for colour, it makes the first to be last. 64. Price Quality Relationships! On the other hand, the monroe colour treasure of indulgences is naturally most acceptable, for it makes the last to be first. 65. Therefore the treasures of the Gospel are nets with which they formerly were wont to fish for men of riches. 66. Obesity Essay! The treasures of the indulgences are nets with which they now fish for the riches of men.

67. The indulgences which the preachers cry as the greatest graces are known to be truly such, in so far as they promote gain. 68. Yet they are in truth the very smallest graces compared with the grace of God and marilyn monroe the piety of the Cross. 69. Bishops and curates are bound to admit the commissaries of apostolic pardons, with all reverence. 70. Quality Relationships! But still more are they bound to strain all their eyes and attend with all their ears, lest these men preach their own dreams instead of the commission of the pope. 71. He who speaks against the truth of apostolic pardons, let him be anathema and accursed!

72. Monroe! But he who guards against the lust and license of the pardon-preachers, let him be blessed! 73. The pope justly thunders against those who, by any art, contrive the injury of the traffic in pardons. 74.

But much more does he intend to thunder against of mice those who use the pretext of pardons to contrive the injury of holy love and marilyn colour truth. 75. To think the papal pardons so great that they could absolve a man even if he had committed an impossible sin and violated the Mother of God -- this is Dubois, madness. 76. Marilyn Monroe Colour! We say, on Garvey, Essay the contrary, that the papal pardons are not able to marilyn monroe colour remove the very least of venial sins, so far as its guilt is concerned. 77. It is said that even St. Peter, if he were now Pope, could not bestow greater graces; this is blasphemy against St. Peter and against the pope. 78. We say, on the contrary, that even the present pope, and any pope at price quality relationships, all, has greater graces at his disposal; to wit, the marilyn monroe colour Gospel, powers, gifts of healing, etc., as it is written in I. Corinthians xii.

79. To say that the cross, emblazoned with the papal arms, which is set up [by the preachers of of mice and men indulgences], is colour, of equal worth with the Cross of Christ, is blasphemy. 80. The bishops, curates and theologians who allow such talk to be spread among the people, will have an account to render. 81. This unbridled preaching of pardons makes it no easy matter, even for learned men, to rescue the reverence due to the pope from slander, or even from the shrewd questionings of the laity. 82. To wit: -- Why does not the Obesity Children pope empty purgatory, for the sake of holy love and of the dire need of the souls that are there, if he redeems an infinite number of souls for the sake of miserable money with which to monroe build a Church?

The former reasons would be most just; the latter is most trivial. 83. Again: -- Why are mortuary and anniversary masses for the dead continued, and Garvey, and Pan Essay why does he not return or permit the withdrawal of the endowments founded on their behalf, since it is wrong to pray for the redeemed? 84. Again: -- What is this new piety of God and the pope, that for monroe colour, money they allow a man who is impious and their enemy to buy out of purgatory the pious soul of a friend of Preventing Children Essay God, and do not rather, because of that pious and beloved soul's own need, free it for pure love's sake? 85. Colour! Again: -- Why are the penitential canons long since in actual fact and through disuse abrogated and dead, now satisfied by the granting of indulgences, as though they were still alive and in force? 86.

Again: -- Why does not the pope, whose wealth is to-day greater than the riches of the richest, build just this one church of St. Peter with his own money, rather than with the money of poor believers? 87. Again: -- What is it that the pope remits, and what participation does he grant to those who, by perfect contrition, have a right to full remission and participation? 88. Again: -- What greater blessing could come to the Church than if the pope were to do a hundred times a day what he now does once, and bestow on every believer these remissions and participations? 89. Since the pope, by his pardons, seeks the salvation of souls rather than money, why does he suspend the indulgences and pardons granted heretofore, since these have equal efficacy? 90. To repress these arguments and scruples of the laity by force alone, and not to resolve them by giving reasons, is to expose the Church and the pope to the ridicule of their enemies, and to make Christians unhappy.

91. If, therefore, pardons were preached according to the spirit and mind of the pope, all these doubts would be readily resolved; nay, they would not exist. 92. Away, then, with all those prophets who say to the people of and men title Christ, Peace, peace, and there is no peace! 93.

Blessed be all those prophets who say to the people of marilyn monroe colour Christ, Cross, cross, and there is no cross! 94. Christians are to be exhorted that they be diligent in following Christ, their Head, through penalties, deaths, and quality hell; 95. And thus be confident of entering into heaven rather through many tribulations, than through the assurance of peace.
